Although her degree at UC Davis is in Food Science, Dale enjoyed the creativity of her art classes, so she continued to study at UC Berkeley and with Laverne Edwards, a professor from California College of Arts and Crafts. After Dale received recognition at both Quilt National and Visions she decided again to focus on her love for art. Quilting has provided the medium to help Dale develop her artistic side.
Dale doesn't have the time or personality for tedious, repetitive, detail oriented work. As a result, she has developed a number of ways to handle those tasks. One method is Pinless Piecing. It is a method of machine piecing curves that even a novice can master.
Described in her book, "Pieced Curves So Simple" (C&T Publishing, 2005) machine piecing perfect circles really does take only six minutes.
Students say that her techniques have changed how they design and construct their work . . . and their quilts show it. No longer are they limited by complex measurements, angles and techniques, imagination becomes their only limitation! The best part is that Dale's methods make complicated designs easy, and fun.
